OTR Wheel and Rim Repair

Since 1986, Tyre Doctor has been a trusted provider of high-quality OTR wheels and rim assemblies supporting mining and heavy earthmoving operations. Backed by decades of practical site experience, we understand the demands of severe operating environments and the critical link between wheel integrity, tyre performance, productivity, and safety.
Tyre Doctor has made a significant strategic investment in dedicated wheel refurbishment capability, delivering a comprehensive in-house solution covering inspection, repair, restoration, and certification of wheel components. Our services include structural assessment, crack detection, engineered repairs, component replacement, and full refurbishment to restore wheels to a safe and serviceable condition.
We provide NATA-aligned Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes and certification for wheels of all sizes and applications. The entire refurbishment lifecycle is managed under one roof from initial inspection and detailed condition reporting, through approved repair and component rectification, to final surface preparation, coating, and formal certification. This integrated approach ensures quality control, traceability, and compliance with industry standards.

From large earthmoving fleets and haul trucks to loaders, tractors, forklifts, and industrial vehicles, Tyre Doctor delivers responsive technical support to resolve complex wheel and rim-tyre challenges. Our focus is to safely return equipment to service faster, reduce unplanned downtime, and maximise the value and life of both wheel assets and tyre investments.

Our Process

Rim Testing

For wheel assemblies over 24″ used in mining and heavy industrial fleets, Tyre Doctor provides comprehensive in-house rim inspection, blasting, testing, painting and repair, verification, and certification to ensure structural integrity and safe operational performance.
Each rim undergoes detailed visual inspection and NATA-aligned Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to identify fatigue, cracking, and hidden structural defects. Engineered repairs and controlled shot blasting within the BPT process are completed prior to coating and final certification, ensuring correct surface profile, contamination removal, and coating adhesion performance.
All work is completed in accordance with AS 4457.1:2024 and supported by certified management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001). Customers receive a detailed, photo-traceable report to support compliance, audits, and insurance assurance while maintaining fleet safety and availability.

Rim Repair

Depending on inspection findings, we repair and refurbish heavy-duty rims from 9″ to 63″, including rims used on haul trucks, loaders, and graders.
All repairs are compliant with Australian standards and mining safety regulations, ensuring restored structural integrity and reliable field performance.
Our rim repair capabilities include:
  • Rim straightening
  • Structural welding and reinforcement
  • Fatigue crack repair
  • Full rim refurbishment
  • Surface preparation, repainting and corrosion protection
Repairs are carried out by fully trained technicians using specialised equipment, including CNC lathes and submerged arc welding, designed for heavy mining components.
To minimise downtime, Tyre Doctor maintains a large inventory of rim components and parts, enabling faster turnaround times for mining fleets.
Every repair is supported by quality assurance processes and warranty-backed workmanship, helping keep fleets operating safely and efficiently.

Rim Manufacture

Mining fleets often require custom or non-standard wheel configurations. Tyre Doctor offers custom rim design and production for mining vehicles and heavy equipment – providing a wide range of rim types and sizes, including multi-piece rims.
We manufacture a wide range of steel and alloy rims, suitable for high-load mining applications.
With CNC machining and precision engineering for exact fit, balance, and performance, we produce rims with tailored bolt patterns, offsets, and rim sizes to match fleet requirements.
Each rim is finished with corrosion-resistant coatings and protective finishes for durability in harsh mining environments. Before delivery, all rims undergo full quality assurance checks, load testing, and inspection to verify performance and compliance.
Designed to withstand extreme loads, rough terrain, and continuous operation, Tyre Doctor rim solutions help improve safety, fleet longevity, and operational efficiency.
